May we meet you ma’am?
Of course, my name is Doyinsola Okunola, a native of Oyo State, I graduated from the prestigious University of Ibadan (smiles)with a Bachelor’s degree in theatre.
I currently work at Cool FM Kano.
Since you have been out there, outside the walls of the university, how would you describe the experience after university?
Experience outside basically has no special feel whatsoever, it depends on what you want it to be like. There’s no miracle that happens with the after university experience, it’s a deliberate effort you make in making it turn out the way you want with God on your side definitely.
What stands you out in the midst of those experiences?
Well, Nothing happens by chance, if you want to stand out then you’ve got to stand and do things outside the box. You cannot keep doing things the same way and expect a different result. Life is intentional so standing out is also intentional; you’ve got to passionately go for your dream because in pursuit comes reward.
Now, how would you define/describe responsibility?
Well in few words responsibility is being able to entrust or be entrusted with a particular task and the ability to carry it out with little to no supervision whatsoever.
And then maturity?? Could they be seen separately or they are intertwined? Or how connected or related are they?
The question in itself has been answered already. Responsibility and maturity are intertwined, you realize the older you get the more the responsibility that comes your way even to your academics, the more cumbersome and complex the syllabus becomes.
For the record, maturity has nothing to do with age but a lot more with your mind, and how far you can work on it. In psychology, maturity is the ability to respond to ones environment in an appropriate manner.
Maturity also encompasses being aware of the correct time and place to behave and knowing when to act, according to the circumstances and the culture of the society one lives in. Maturity emphasizes a clear comprehension of life’s purpose, directedness, and intentionality, which contributes to the feeling that life is meaningful.
In your few years on campus and outside campus, how would you describe or grade the maturity level of students and graduates who are still young? Responsibility-wise, how would you speak of them?
Actually, if it’s on a general basis then I’d say above average because , I’ve seen young people do great stuff, invent things, champion networks, groups, organizations, fellowships, anchor shows and many other events without any itch.
But if you ask me, that’s on a group level, now, bringing it down to the individual unit, It’s individuals who make up groups of which some people hide under that banner to lazy around. I’m not saying being in a group that makes things happen is bad, my point is, consciously work and improve on yourself as an individual then you’d do much more in a team. You can only give what you have.
Can we learn from you? From your experiences?
Definitely, my pleasure it is. Even though from childhood you make decisions on things like which plate of food to carry when in the kitchen, the bigger one especially, (laughs) or the colour of shoe to wear on christmas or the friends to keep. However, Growing up offered me platforms to make more real life decisions. In Jss3 had to decide on what I wanted from life and what line to embrace and that’s why its good to know yourself or else everything would look like what you want ‘indecision’, a bad syndrome.
I went to the social sciences but ended up crossing to the arts towards the tail end of SS2, when I realized being in the crowd only silences your own voice .
Studied theatre, with media being my major, currently working in a media house. With all these, I’m headed somewhere to impact my generation especially the youth, so wait for it(smiles).
Actually, most of the plans we make guides in pressing towards the mark and as a Christian who has a personal relationship with God, The Holy Spirit will definitely teach you and guide you into all the truth.
So when it’s not looking like it, just know that God has got you and stay true to your passion and dream, when the fruits begin to materialize you’ll know of a truth, it’s not going a coincidence but a reward of diligence.
What really is/are the thing(s) that come with being mature and/or being responsible?
Mostly there’s something unique to these two words and that’s making decisions that will stand the test of time. Setting your priorities and scale of preference right.
Finally, maturity and responsibility in business, academics, relationship and career, can you give a little enlightenment on that.
Okay! Being responsible in your business, academics, relationship, and career as a your young person has a lot to do with how far you have been able to study the word(winks), Pray, stretch your mind, expose yourself to your environment and positive information, research on the researchable, finding and staying loyal to people who have made marks in the line you want to trail.
Like i mentioned earlier, nothing happens by chance, you make it happen consciously, don’t be in a haste, don’t outrun yourself, surround yourself with people of like minds, set goals, achieve them and set other ones for yourself till you hit the mark and never forget to reward yourself even if no one does
